/ G7 Promise: Phase-Out of Fossil Within the Century

The Group of Seven (G7) leaders declared in the summit, held in Germany to seek a phase-out of fossil energy globally within this century. In a communiqué issued after the two-day G7 summit in the luxurious Palace Elmau, the foot of Alps in southern Bavaria, leaders from the United States, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Canada and Japan stressed that in order to achieve a global decarburization over the course of this century,the significant reduction of global carbon emissions is necessary.

The seven countries of G7 achieved consensus that the goal is to reduce 40-70% of global carbon emissions by 2050, as compared to 2010 levels, and to transform their own energy sectors by 2050.
